‘Focusing the Light’

“But the queen leads the way, In the absence of a king” referencing Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ – “I... I will be king, and you.. you will be queen” etc.

Bowie appears on the recording, as I used his breathing captured by Tony Visconti from the ‘Blackstar’ album sessions, as well as the word ‘down’.

The staccato strings at the end are inspired by Ronnie Hazlehurst's theme from “The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin” - a program I loved as a child.

The reggae influence was worked on after a visit to a studio, where the producer there suggested really following my dub style bass line to create interest. I amended the original drums and added Hammond organ and electric guitar – the guitar used is a Gibson Les Paul Special with P90’s, exactly like the one used by Bob Marley from 1972/73.

The instrumental middle eight has – ‘lie la lie’ vocals referencing Paul Simon’s ‘The Boxer’.
