Is this is how we get through lockdown, by creating mini-distractions from the potential terror? I've been very lucky really, I have remained in full employment, so haven't suffered financially, no one I know personally has been hospitalised or died from COVID 19, I have survived 9 weeks of 24/7 with my wife and son without any of us killing each other, and I have managed to stay relatively sane throughout.
The distractions have been:
Building a pedal board for my guitar effects pedals
Buying a new microphone
Buying a new pickup for my aging Takamine, after its original pickup died. The new one can also be used on my 12 string too.
Recording a cover version of The Novus' song "Darkness" for a compilation album of artists from Stourbridge.
Working out whether I need to get a new DAW, as Mixbus5 (although sounding amazing) completely mashes CPU and is forever crashing. Which is a shame as I really love the way it works. I originally started with Cubase on PC in about 2002, before moving everything to Mac and Logic Pro until OSX updates made it not work anymore on my old iMac (changing to Mavericks also initially fried all my Firewire drives as well as my M-Audio audio interface grrr). Since I lost Logic Pro I have tried numerous DAWs, none of them as stable as Logic used to be, or with a workflow that matched it. Reaper, Studio One, Pro Tools, Cubase and Garageband didn't feel right. The best I have found is Waveform, but Mixbus5's look, feel and sound is better, apart from the fact it crashes so much due to overloading the CPU. It's really frustrating for a home studio on a limited budget. Also the time you spend learning to use a DAW that in the end does not do the job properly, is equally frustrating when you have to move onto another one.
Still, it is a distraction, and I hope this meandering train of thought has been equally distracting for you. Stay safe.
