Kevan and I met up at his studio at the weekend (wearing masks and keeping the 2 metres distance of course) and listened to the full mixes we currently have. Making notes on changes that were necessary. Small changes in fact, showing that we have a few songs now close to being completed. We talked about what to work on next, from the tracks that have no arrangements and I mentioned 'Flares'. I always had in my mind an arrangement that would evoke a casual production as if it was a group of friends playing drunkenly one night in a pub - playing a song everyone knew and everyone could sing along with. I imagined a guitar, an old joanna and a fiddle - a simple arrangement. And so I set about trying to write the fiddle melody, that everyone would remember instantly - a hook line like in 'Young At Heart' by The Bluebells or 'Come On Eileen' by Dexys.
