Almost a month after my last post, and the country has been in lockdown. As a key worker I returned to work after self-isolation and later began working from home ensuring that businesses in my area receive their support grants while their shops are unable to trade. A small but crucial role during this time of massive uncertainty for many people where their income has dropped to nothing.
I have therefore had little time to work on the Rockets project, and it is made more difficult because my wife and son are always in the house as well, so I have no quiet time at all to record or write parts for the other instruments... well not much time.
I have been able to work on: strings for the middle section of 'Jimmy & Jolie'; new bass and drums for 'Focussing the Light' (I reused the piano track from the 'fast version' of the song recorded last year; and strings and drums for 'What If/What Next?'.
Kevan has worked on a version of 'Learning to Lie' using Maschine, but due to lockdown I have been unable to hear it.
My sister has listened to the new 'in progress' versions and is thrilled by the song's developments, offering thoughts on how she feels the songs should sound, regarding additional arrangements. Her opinion has been crucial to my continuing belief in this project, as she is someone out of the writing bubble that me and Kevan have been living in for the last 12 months.
I look forward to sharing the songs with everybody soon and it is keeping me mentally stable having this to focus on while the rest of world has been turned upside down. These are very strange and dark days, so be safe everyone and focus on the light.
