Six songs composed

It is now April. Our story began back in January when Kevan sent me the first batch of lyrics. I didn't think at that time that within a few months we would be looking at six fully composed songs.. I really didn't. I expected months of writer's block, or worse, Kevan to send back every completed song with a list of necessary amendments. Although the memos on this site are very rough sketches, they do indicate how well the songs stand up to just a simple voice and piano arrangement... something I was always keen on as I think many songs can be disguised with sophisticated production, but when stripped down do not actually work at all. These are not songs that will stand up or fail because of a great guitar riff or spiky lead synth, you can play them down your local pub, and maybe someone would just sing along. And that is actually a powerful thing for a writer; simple enough to be just played but sophisticated enough melodically to be taken to a whole new dimension of sound. And so the next stages begin of arrangements, when you have to consider tempo an instrumentation and space.. and then of course actually recording them properly. Exciting times indeed, and I still have two lyrics to work on yet.
