'A Child's Tale' was a struggle. I think this track was tougher than the rest to satisfy my desire to put a decent melody to Kevan's words. The lyrics spoke to me in a way that his other words did not, and by that I mean I felt this song could have been about me, whereas the others could be about everybody. Because of that I needed to do them justice. It took many days and many changes to reach the final version that I am happy with - the amount of times I would walk down our street singing aloud the melody line I didn't like and trying to find a better melody, quickly recording onto my phone, and then finding it was still was wrong. Finally I pictured the shape of a melody line that I wanted in my head in bed and silently drew what I thought the sound would be like in the darkness... the next day I translated that silent shape of descending notes into a melody I think fits the subject. Some times it doesn't just fall into your lap and actually does take "so many hours of reasoning."
