As you will know, this song is our tribute to the late Mark Hollis who died in 2019 while we were writing the album.
I sent a CD to Phill Brown, who engineered the last two Talk Talk albums and co-produced Mark Hollis' only solo album. If there is one person's opinion I hold above everybody else, it is Phill's. Not only is he an amazing technician in the music studio, he also has an incredible feel for the recorded sound and I wanted to know whether I had produced this track well enough.
I kind of didn't expect a response from Phill, but desperately did want one, and so when he emailed me today I was delighted to read the following:
"I really enjoyed the track – there are some lovely touches and a wonderful Bass-end.
The Talk Talk references are wonderful and subtle, you did not fall into the trap of making it sound like TT. If you get a finished album together please send it on."
I am thrilled with that, absolutely thrilled. Thank you Phill.
By the way, the image above is referencing the Talk Talk video for It's My Life when Mark refused to lip sync and at one point a black box covers his mouth entirely.
And oh yeah, the Soundcloud link is now up so you can hear everything. The official release will be soon.
