A year on from when this project started and the world has changed. Some may argue that writing songs is just a mere distraction from the horrorshow around every corner. Intolerance and hatred breed in the UK as we distance ourselves from our sisters and brothers; right wing media promote right wing governments because it is in their financial interests; our rights are eroded to secure profits; our sense of decency and compassion is diminished as we are cruelly set off against each other; a continent burns; another is illegally attacked and then blamed for its retaliation (like the picked on child in the playground is sent to detention for hitting back at a bully); and all the time mindlessly cretinous entertainment shows are piped into our homes to help dumb down citizens, The world has learned to lie, but its people never learned to spot the lies, and as education becomes underfunded our children stop thinking for themselves and questioning. I fear for my son and the world he has inherited.
However, I carry on, because I guess this is my distraction and my only way to protect my mental health. It has been my magic pill for 40 years and I am addicted to creating.
I am still putting the final touches to the mixes of the acoustic versions of 7 songs. I have also updated the LYRICS page with images showing how the words developed from Kevan's initial drafts to my additions and amendments, to the final lyrics as they appear in the finished recordings. The handwritten versions are still in place to see on the individual song pages.
I am still undecided whether to upload the final mixes of the acoustic versions yet, and I guess this is to do with the fact that these versions sound and feel like Neilson songs, not Rockets recordings. Maybe I will feel different once they are finished and I make some space between them and me. At the moment the project and its issues regarding production is still raw.
